On Friday May 16, 2025, Emergency Vehicle Driver Charles Mudra suffered a catastrophic medical emergency in between a skills assessment session he was participating in at the Baltimore City Fire Department training academy. Immediate advanced life support measures were administered on scene and Emergency Vehicle Driver Mudra was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital ED. Sadly, all resuscitative efforts by fire department & hospital personnel were unsuccessful.

From a young age, Charlie Mudra had dreamed of being a firefighter. Soon after graduating high school, he joined the New Hyde Park Volunteer Fire Company in New Hyde Park, New York, where he became certified as a firefighter and EMT.

In 1999, he was hired by the New York City Fire department as an EMT & served for nearly a decade, including being promoted to EMS Lieutenant.

Charlie relocated to Maryland & was hired by the Baltimore City Fire Department in 2008 to serve as an EMT. He eventually was promoted to EVD.

EVD Mudra will be remembered as a dedicated & caring public servant, & as a devoted & generous colleague & friend.

EVD Charles Elpidio Mudra was 52 years old, he had served in the BCFD for 17 years, and in the fire service for 35 years.
