In mid-January of 1908, while on the scene of a working fire, John W. Criswell, Captain of the Arlington Chemical Company /Baltimore County Fire Department Co.3, reportedly contracted a bad cold which quickly developed into double pneumonia. Sadly, Captain Criswell never recovered & died on January 29, 1908.
Captain Criswell was one of the best-known employees of the Baltimore County Fire Department who, in early January of 1908 had been re-appointed for a 3rd time as Captain of the Arlington Chemical Company. Prior to being hired by the Baltimore County Fire Department, he had been an active member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department.
He was survived by his wife & 4 children.
Captain John Wilson Criswell was 40 years old. Number of years served is unknown at this time.
