Having responded to multiple medical calls for sick patients who were COVID-19 positive, City of Cumberland MD Firefighter/EMT Kelly Frye contracted the COVID-19 virus and became critically ill. After a month-long battle with the virus, that included 2 hospitalizations and a massive stroke, Firefighter/EMT Frye passed away from complications of the virus at the University of Maryland Medical Center on September 29, 2021.Firefighter/EMT Frye was known to be an outstanding emergency responder who approached his work with great compassion and care had been employed by the City of Cumberland as a career Firefighter/EMT since 1996 and was a Life Member of the Frostburg Fire Department No.1 Firefighter Kelly William Frye was 53 years old and had served the citizens of Maryland for over 26 years.
