WRIGHT, Jr. Joseph L.

On Saturday February 18, 1950, Firefighter Joseph L. Wright, Jr. was riding the back step of Jessup's fire engine responding to a reported dwelling fire. The driver of the engine lost control on Georgetown Road near the Old Annapolis Road causing the apparatus to go off the road and overturn. Firefighter Wright was thrown from the back step into the roadway and was critically injured. He was transported to St. Agnes Hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull. Firefighter Wright died from his injuries at 1 a.m. on February 19, 1950. Firefighter Joseph L. Wright,Jr. was 26 years old and had served 10 years.
