HUMPHREYS, Carl E.
Box 2127 sounded at 12:05 a.m. for a 2 story brick dwelling fire. An exploding portable kerosene heater started the fire and it was reported that 2 persons were trapped on the second floor. Second Battalion Chief Lorenz A. Dolle and Fireman Carl E. Humphreys (T-1) began searching for the occupants on the second floor. Fireman Humphreys was on his hands and knees searching a 2nd floor bedroom when he collapsed and died. Fireman Carl Enos Humphreys was 45 years old and had served nearly 20 years.
