On the afternoon of October 19, 2023 at approximately 3:42 pm, Box alarm 46-40 was dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire in the 5200 block of Linden Heights Avenue in West Baltimore. Units arrived on the scene to find a two-story middle of the group dwelling with heavy fire conditions.
One of the first responding units to arrive on the scene was Engine Company #29 of which EMT/FF Rodney W. Pitts, III was assigned.
During EMT/FF Pitts’ dire efforts to battle and extinguish this fire, he suffered severe injuries, was emergently treated at the scene, and then transported to an area hospital. Tragically, EMT/FF Pitts succumbed to his injuries.
The heroic efforts and gallant of EMT/Firefighter Rodney W. Pitts, III will forever remain in the hearts of the members of the Baltimore City Fire Department.
EMT/Firefighter Rodney William Pitts, III was 31 years old and had faithfully served the citizens of his hometown as a Baltimore City Fire Department EMT/Firefighter for 1 year.
