ROBERTS, Allan M.
On October 9, 2006, Firefighter Allan M. Roberts was working an overtime night shift and assigned to Engine 41. At approximately 2:22 a.m. on October 10th, an Eastern Avenue fire box was sounded for a dwelling fire 512 South Macon Street, reported two people trapped on the second floor. Engine 41 was first to arrive on the scene. Firefighter Roberts, and two fellow firefighters, were inside the dwelling performing search and rescue, as well as advancing a hand line to fight fire, when there was a sudden build up of heat, and partial structural collapse that trapped the three firefighters. Although all three were successfully extricated, Firefighter Roberts was fatally injured. He was transported to Bayview Hospital by EMS. All resuscitation efforts by EMS and Bayview Hospital staff were unsuccessful. Firefighter Allan M. Roberts, joined the ranks of the BCFD in 1987 and had been a member of Truck 26 since 1989. He was a decorated firefighter having received the Exemplary Performance Award for the rescue of an infant from a burning apartment building on February 28, 1994, a Mayor's Citation, a City Council of Baltimore Resolution #5510, and the African American Exposition Award. He also received a second Exemplary Performance Award on July 19, 2002 for his efforts in the Howard Street Tunnel Fire, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation on March 21, 1999. Firefighter Allan Michael Roberts, "The Beast from the Northeast" was 40 years old and had served for 19 years.
