TALBOTT Sr., Leon A.
Box No. 415 sounded at 12:57pm. Two 6 story brick buildings, each 35 feet wide and 100 feet deep, at Baltimore & Eutaw Streets were on fire. Pipeman Leon A. Talbott and Pipeman Frank Miller carried a portable extinguisher into the elevator intending to take it to the 5th floor where the fire was burning but ascended to the 6th floor instead. The doors opened to an intensely heated atmosphere that was heavily charged with smoke and both pipemen were trapped. Pipeman Miller escaped by going out a window and crawling along a narrow ledge to the adjacent building. After the fire had been knocked, Pipeman Talbott was found dead on the 6th floor near the front window. Pipeman Leon A. Talbott Sr. was 27 years old and had served 2 years.
