WATSON, John A.

On April 24, 1919 Workmen were repairing the roof of St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys on Wilken's Avenue Extended. At approximately 4:15p.m.,a tinner's torch started a fire under the eaves. The fire went 3 alarms, burned for hours, and gutted the main administration building. Firemen had entered the gutted building to extinguish any lingering flames when suddenly the 2nd floor balcony, that included a large iron beam, came crashing down onto the firemen, killing Lieutenant Howard A. Davis, Engine Co. No. 47 & Lieutenant John A. Watson, Engine Co. No. 27.
