On January 24, 2022 ,at 05:53 hrs, Baltimore City Fire Box 55-10 was sounded for a reported dwelling fire in the 200 block of South Stricker Street. At 05:56 hrs, units arrived to find a vacant 3 story middle of the row home with fire showing from all 3 stories and with an occupied adjacent rowhome (side Delta).At approximately 06:30 hrs: Firefighters were battling the blaze when a partial wall collapse occurred, dumping tons of debris onto 4 firefighters & trapping them in the vacant dwelling. A MAYDAY was called, and a second alarm assignment requested. One firefighter, BCFD EMT/Firefighter John McMaster, was able to be immediately rescued by fellow firefighters and was transported to Shock Trauma in critical condition. Thankfully, EMT/Firefighter McMaster recovered from his injuries.Tragically, 3 BCFD firefighters, Lieutenant Paul Butrim , Acting Lt. Firefighter/Paramedic Kelsey Sadler, and Firefighter/Paramedic Kenny Lacayo , paid the ultimate sacrifice & gave their lives that morning.Acting Lieutenant Firefighter/Paramedic Kelsey Sadler began serving the citizens of Maryland as a member of the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company, and as a graduate of the Harford county High School Fire/EMS Cadet Program . She went on to join the Baltimore City Fire Department as a career Firefighter/Paramedic in 2006. She was reported to be a natural leader and an exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled firefighter and paramedic.BCFD promoted Acting Lieutenant Sadler to the rank of Fire Lieutenant, posthumously.Fire Lieutenant Kelsey Renee Sadler was 33 years old and had served the citizens of Maryland for over 17 years.
