COURTNEY, Harry

During an afternoon station training exercise, Ladderman Harry Courtney ,No.3 Hook & Ladder Co.,was demonstrating how to remove people from the upper stories of a building. Ladderman Courtney proceeded up a 35 foot ladder and caught hold of a window shutter that, although thought to be locked, was unlocked ,and swung open, causing Ladderman Courtney to fall from the ladder. He was fatally injured when he struck the marble steps below before landing in the street.
