HICKS, John Elwood

Elwood Hicks died on April 6, 1933, while responding to a house fire in Shawsville. The fire engine he was riding in overturned on Wiseburg Road in Whitehall. The 1928 American LaFrance fire engine hit a mud slide across the road after a hard storm. He was sitting on the hose bed, front axle spring broke on apparatus, throwing Firefighter Hicks into street and he was pinned under the fire engine. Mr. Hicks died at the scene from his injuries
