On January 14, 2004, Maryland Line VFC Past President Firefighter Richard A. Jones twice responded to Sta.450 for fire calls and twice served as part of the standby crew. Once the standby crew for the second incident had been released, Firefighter Jones returned home and during the early morning hours of January 15, 2004, he passed in his sleep. . "Dick joined the Maryland Line VFC in 1956 and was an active member for nearly 5 decades, including holding the offices of President, Vice President, Captain, and Board of Director. The Maryland Line VFC meant everything to Dick and whenever that siren blew you knew he would be there." Past President Firefighter Richard Allen "Dick" Jones was 65 years old and had served for 48 years.
