On Saturday September 14, 1996, while working at a firehouse function, former EMS Chief Sammy Lee Strall suffered a massive heart attack and was transported to Union Hospital. Sadly, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

Sammy Lee Strall, a veteran of the United States Army, was 63 years old and had served over 30 years.
