STITELY, Gilmore L.

Firefighter Gilmore “Butch” Stitley was the groundskeeper for the Frederick Fairgrounds on East Patrick Street. He was an active member of both the Citizens Truck Company No. 4 and the Independent Hose Co. No. 1.

While fighting a large mulch fire on a lot adjoining several fairground barns, Firefighter Stitley collapsed having suffered sudden cardiac arrest & was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital . Sadly, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

Firefighter Gilmore "Butch" Stitley was 54 years old and had served for 38 years.
