MILLSTEIN, DAVID B.

Not long after graduating from Gettysburg College with a degree in business,  Dave Millstein joined his local volunteer fire company and soon realized that “serving others” was his calling.

In 2004, he was hired by Frederick Division of Fire & Rescue Services as a member of Recruit Class #7, graduating as Valedictorian of his class. Over the next 14 years he would be certified as a National Registered Paramedic, be awarded the Silver Medal of Bravery, the Life Saving Award Unit Citation, & the American Legions Firefighter of the Year award. Firefighter Millstein worked out of various Frederick County stations, spending much of his career as a Haz Mat Technician at Station 31. In 2014, he was promoted to Lieutenant.

In 2018, Lt. Millstein retired from FCDFRS and went to with the United States Fire Administration as Fire Program Specialist, where he served as Chief of the National Fire Data Center & Chief of the Emergency Medical Services Branch.

Tragically, in May of 2024, Retired Lt. Millstein was diagnosed with a form of Firefighter occupational cancer/glioblastoma.

After a courageous nearly 2 year battle with the disease, he passed away on February 20,2026.

In addition to his public service career, Dave also served his community by volunteering as a member of the school board, as youth soccer coach, as Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator, and as a member of the Fairfield Community Fire Company for 25 years.
Most importantly, Dave was a devoted husband, father, son, & friend.

Retired Frederick County Division of Fire & Rescue Services Lieutenant David B. Millstein was 49 years old and had served in the fire & EMS service for 25 years.
