Aberdeen Proving Grounds Fire & EMS ~ Harford County ~ Maryland

October 3,1966

Driver/Operator George Curlett Jr responded with fellow APG firefighters to an airplane crash, reported to be a light aircraft into high voltage lines, on Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Thankfully, the 2 Army Captains flying the aircraft survived the crash & were transported to Kirk Army Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Tragically, firefighters found D/O Curlett slumped over the steering wheel of the fire engine at the crash scene. Sadly, all efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Driver/Operator George Curlett Jr, a United States Army Veteran who served in WWII ,was 47 years old and had served at APG for 20 years.
