On May 31, 2020, after battling a fire service occupational cancer for over three years, Howard County Department Fire Rescue Services Firefighter /Heavy Vehicle operator Brad Scott passed away at home surround by family and loved ones. Firefighter /Heavy Vehicle Operator Scott, a proud graduate of HCDFRS Recruit Class 23, spent most of his career at the Banneker Fire Station, where he was responsible for driving Engine 71. He also volunteered with Claymont Volunteer Fire Department in his hometown of Claymont, Delaware. "Brad was a 13-year veteran of our department and certainly left his mark of professionalism," said Fire Chief William Anuszewski. "He cared for the art of firefighting and was an excellent Heavy Vehicle Operator. More importantly, Brad was an incredible human being who cared for others and loved his wife Charlene and his three girls immensely. He will be missed by all who had the fortune to meet him." After conferring with County Administration, Chief Anuszewski Firefighter /HVO posthumously promoted Firefighter/HVO Scott to the rank of Lieutenant, effective May 25, 2020. Howard County Department Fire Rescue Services Lieutenant Brad A. Scott was 43 years old and had served the department for 13 years.
