  In 1979,  Mark Fisher joined Frederick’s United Steam Fire Engine Company No.3 & found his passion for firefighting while serving his community as a volunteer firefighter. Over the years, in addition to earning numerous certifications, he served on many committees & in various leadership positions including Fire Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Chief of the Company for 6 years, earned his Life Membership status, and was honored when bestowed with the title of Chief Emeritus.

Mark was hired by Montgomery County Department of Fire & Rescue Services in 1994 as a career firefighter and during the 22 years that followed ,” he exemplified integrity, knowledge, and courage in every shift, and was greatly admired. He shared his extensive knowledge as an instructor for both Montgomery County and Frederick County Departments of Fire and Rescue.”

His work with MCFRS led to him serving on Maryland Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue Team, responding to many disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon.

Following the events of 9-11 at the Pentagon, Master Firefighter Fisher was diagnosed with a fire service occupational disease/cancer. He fought a courageous battle with the disease for over eight years until he passed on July 24, 2014.

Mark was deeply devoted to his family, his friends, the fire service, and to the citizens he served.

Master Firefighter Mark Richard Fisher ,Jr. was 59 years old and served in the fire service for 35 years.
