BURNS, John M.

John Michael Burns was serving as Assistant Chief & President of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department. Over the weekend of October 21 & 22, AC Burns had been staffing the firehouse and handling his administrative responsibilities. On Sunday October 22, after returning from an incident, AC Burns suddenly became ill. He was first evaluated at Bowie Health Center and then transferred to PG Hospital. His condition deteriorated and, on Monday October 23, he was medevacked to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Sadly, Assistant Chief Burns passed away at Shock Trauma in the early morning hours of October 24, 2017. During his time at Kentland, John not only grew in tremendous ways, but he was pivotal in advancing Kentland. Assistant Chief/ President John Michael Burns was 45 years old and had served 14 years.
