HEDRICK, Kenneth M.

At approximately 03:00 hrs, Prince George's County Engine Company 27 (Morningside VFD) was dispatched for a first due working house fire at the Sanchez residence, 3807 Walls Lane in Suitland. Upon arrival, it was reported that 7 year old Shawn Sanchez was trapped inside the dwelling. Firefighter Kenneth M. Hedrick (Engine Co.27) entered the burning dwelling,located the 7 year old boy, brought him out, and handed him off to the paramedics on the scene. Firefighter Hedrick then re-entered the dwelling to search for other occupants who were reported to be trapped. Fire conditions rapidly deteriorated and Firefighter Hedrick was fatally injured when he became trapped under debris in the basement of the dwelling. "Kenny will always be remembered for his charisma, and for his dedication and loyalty to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters." Firefighter Kenneth Michael Hedrick was 18 years old and had served 2 1/2 years.
