JERSCHEID Sr., Charles H.

January 11, 1956 Box No. 288 sounded at 11:29 a.m. for a cellar fire. Engine Co. No. 24 was responding when it was struck by a tractor-trailer at Patterson Park Avenue and Monument Street. The engine skidded some 50 feet on the rain-soaked street and then overturned onto it's top, trapping and killing the driver of the engine, Firefighter Charles H. Jerscheid. Firefighter Charles Hazeltine Jerscheid Sr. was 45 years old and had served 12 years and 3 months.
