KEYSER, James R.
On April 17, 1894, Engine Co.No.13 was responding to a building fire when Firemen James Keyser was thrown from the engine at Fremont & Edmonson and was transported to Maryland General Hospital with a severe leg injury. He had been a patient in the hospital for nearly 8 weeks and with his condition deteriorating, it was decided to amputate his leg on June 9, 1894. Fireman Keyser died shortly after the operation. Fireman James R. Keyser, who served in the 69th Regimen of the Pennsylvania Infantry for the entire Civil War, was 48 years old and had served in the BCFD for 15 years.
