POWERS, Michael R.
On June 29, 2019 at approximately 12:54 hrs units responded to vehicular crash with fatality due to a head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and car on Liberty Road At Unionville Road. Firefighter Mike Powers was driving one of the responding engines from the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department . There was a significant amount of scattered debris from the crash and upon arrival FF Powers got out of the engine to help clear the roadway. As he bent over to pick up debris, FF Powers collapsed onto the roadway having suffered sudden cardiac arrest. EMS rendered care and he was transported to the hospital. Sadly, all resuscitation attempts by EMS & hospital staff were unsuccessful. Michael R. Powers, a Veteran of the United States Army & Army Reserve, began his volunteer firefighter career when he joined the Brunswick VFD in the 1960's. He joined Carroll Manor VFD in the 1970's ,and upon moving to Libertytown in 1980, joined the Libertytown Volunteers where he was an active member for nearly 40 years, served on the Board of Directors, and had earned Life Member status. Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Firefighter Michael R. Powers was 73 years old and served for over 50 years.
