MYERS, Terry L.

Vigilant Hose Co. ~ Frederick County ~ Maryland

February 15, 1999

On Monday February 15,1999 at approximately 12:16 p.m. Vigilant Hose Company was alerted for a reported brush fire on the campus of Mount Saint Mary's College. Vigilant Engine 64 ,with Firefighter Terry L. Myers behind the wheel , responded to the college's Knott Athletic & Recreational Convocation Complex where a once controlled burning had spread and gotten out of control. Firefighter Myers was operating E-64's front pump & had been supplying water for some 45 minutes when he suddenly collapsed having suffered sudden cardiac arrest.

Emergency medical care was initiated immediately by Vigilant members and continued by EMS during transport to Gettysburg Memorial Hospital. Sadly, all resuscitation attempts by Fire/EMS & hospital staff were unsuccessful.

Firefighter Terry Lee Myers was 50 years old and had served 33 years.
